Tottenham's Ambitious Summer Transfer Plans: Savinho, Marmoush, and Gakpo
Tottenham are already tearing up the script of a normal summer window. And there are strong hints they are not done yet.
Savinho is effectively in the bag after an £85m agreement with Manchester City, Omar Marmoush is edging closer, and yet the word from inside the market is clear: Spurs might still be lining up something even bigger.
Two wingers, one striker – and maybe more
Fabrizio Romano set the framework on Thursday. Tottenham’s plan, he said, is simple enough on paper: two wingers and a central striker. Savinho and Cody Gakpo are the wide targets. The No 9? That role is now being filled by Marmoush.
Phase one moved quickly. Spurs struck the huge deal with City for Savinho, then immediately pivoted to Marmoush. The Egypt international has agreed personal terms on a five‑year contract and is described as very keen to work under Roberto De Zerbi. Talks between Tottenham and his club are “very close” to completion and could be wrapped up within days.
If that happens, Tottenham’s summer outlay will surge towards the £400m mark. For most clubs, that would be the crescendo.
Miguel Delaney isn’t so sure.
“May yet go bigger”
Writing in his Inside Football newsletter, The Independent’s chief football writer suggested Tottenham “may yet go bigger than Savinho and Omar Marmoush”. No names, no grand reveal – but a clear indication that the recruitment drive may still have a headline act to come.
The obvious candidate is Gakpo. Romano has repeatedly framed the window around a trio: Savinho, Gakpo and a central striker. One is done. One is close. One, at least in theory, is still on the board.
Gakpo has been linked with Spurs throughout the summer, even if Marmoush has stolen the spotlight in recent days. Romano has stressed that the Dutchman’s situation “remains open” and underlined that Tottenham’s business is far from finished.
“It’s not over at all, the summer transfer window for Tottenham. I always told you Savinho, Gakpo, and a central striker. Savinho is done. Gakpo: we will talk in the next few days,” he said.
If the endgame is not Gakpo, then the alternative is intriguing: another attacking signing being worked on quietly, well away from the usual rumour mill.
Gakpo deal locked behind Liverpool’s dominoes
Several pieces still have to fall into place before Gakpo can realistically walk through the doors at Hotspur Way.
Personal terms? Those are not the problem. Gakpo has already agreed them and is understood to be very keen on the move. The obstacle is Liverpool.
The forward remains part of their plans, and his strong pre‑season has only hardened that stance. Some reporters now believe a sale will be especially difficult, with Liverpool confident new manager Andoni Iraola can extract even more from him.
Tottenham have not yet put an official offer on the table. That could change quickly if Liverpool complete deals for Paris Saint‑Germain pair Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye. Either arrival would crowd Gakpo’s area of the pitch and might soften Liverpool’s resistance.
Until then, Spurs wait, ready to pounce if the door opens.
The window is into its final week. Tottenham have already spent like a club intent on crashing the elite. The real question now is whether they’re about to land one more statement signing to prove they plan to stay there.
