Tottenham Near Signing of Omar Marmoush for £50 Million

Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Omar Marmoush after striking a deal with Manchester City for a loan with an obligation to buy the Egyptian forward.

The 25-year-old is due to undergo a medical, with the obligation to buy understood to be set at an initial £50million. That figure is backed up by £5m in guaranteed add-ons and a further £5m in performance-related bonuses, taking the total package towards £60m.

Marmoush is expected to sign a four-year contract in north London, with Spurs holding an option to extend the agreement by a further 12 months. It is a long-term commitment and a clear statement of faith in a player who struggled for rhythm last season but still believes he can lead the line for a Champions League-chasing side.

Crucially for Tottenham, the Marmoush deal is being treated as completely separate from the £85m signing of his former City team-mate Savio. The Brazilian winger completed his move to Spurs on Tuesday and is available to make his debut in the Carabao Cup second-round tie at home to Charlton tonight, underlining the speed at which the club are trying to bed in their new-look attack.

There will be no windfall for Eintracht Frankfurt, Marmoush’s former club. Despite earlier reports, there is no sell-on clause due from this move, leaving the financial picture clean between Spurs and City.

On the pitch, Marmoush arrives with something to prove. He managed only eight Premier League starts for City last season, unable to turn an eye-catching start to life in England into a regular role. Across all competitions he scored eight goals in 36 appearances, numbers that hint at potential but also at the stop-start nature of his campaign as he slipped down the pecking order.

That is precisely what he intends to change in north London. Marmoush joins Spurs with the clear ambition of dislodging Richarlison and Dominic Solanke to become Roberto De Zerbi’s first-choice centre-forward. For a manager who demands intensity, movement and aggression in the final third, the Egyptian’s energy and direct running could quickly make him a central figure if he hits form.

The move also underlines the scale of Tottenham’s summer overhaul. With Marmoush poised to arrive, their spending has already surged past the £300m mark, following the captures of Savio, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Spurs are not just tweaking under De Zerbi. They are tearing up the old script and building an attack designed to last.
