Tottenham's Surprising Loan Move for Mykhailo Mudryk
Tottenham Hotspur are on the brink of one of the most surprising deals of the window, closing in on a loan move for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk with an option to buy for around £75 million.
The agreement, revealed by Fabrizio Romano on GIVEMESPORT’s Market Madness podcast, is expected to be completed within hours, with Mudryk set to sign his Spurs contract on Tuesday afternoon after undergoing a medical earlier in the day.
From Doping Suspension to North London Lifeline
Mudryk has not played competitive football for well over a year. His Chelsea career came to a halt after a positive doping test led to his suspension, ruling him out of action in any capacity since December 2024.
The story has now flipped. The charges have been dropped, Mudryk has been cleared to play, and suddenly the winger who disappeared from the Premier League landscape is back on the market.
Not at Stamford Bridge, though.
Enzo Maresca has made it clear there is no place for him in his Chelsea plans. With the Ukrainian deemed surplus to requirements, Chelsea have been open to a move, and Spurs have stepped in.
Tottenham will take Mudryk on an initial loan, paying his salary and a loan fee, with an option to make the deal permanent for £75 million.
Spurs Rip Up Their Left-Sided Plan
This was not the original script for Tottenham’s summer.
The club have been hunting for a left-sided attacker for months. Savinho has already arrived and can operate on that flank, but the expectation is that the Brazilian will mainly feature on the opposite side, where Ange Postecoglou’s squad is thinner.
Cody Gakpo was the first big target. Spurs pushed, but Liverpool chose to keep the Dutchman. Attention then swung to Iliman Ndiaye, with a more complex domino setup in mind: Ndiaye to Tottenham, Richarlison back to Everton.
That collapsed. No agreement on personal terms between Richarlison and Everton, and the chain broke.
So Tottenham pivoted. Fast.
On Monday evening, Mudryk’s name suddenly shot to the top of their list. By Tuesday, the deal was close enough for Romano to say on Market Madness that the 25-year-old would be signing his contract within two hours.
“Yes, Mykhailo Mudryk will be a Tottenham player, he will sign his contract at Tottenham in the next two hours,” Romano said, confirming the structure as “loan deal with an option to buy clause at £75million,” and adding that the winger had completed his medical in the morning.
Tottenham, he explained, went for what they saw as “the easiest option” after complications in other pursuits.
A High-Stakes Gamble on Untapped Pace
For Spurs, this is a bold play. Mudryk’s raw pace and direct running once made him one of Europe’s most talked-about wide prospects. Since then, a year on the sidelines and a stalled spell at Chelsea have left his career at a standstill.
Now he walks into a new dressing room, a new system, and a fanbase that has seen its club improvise in the market and land a winger from a direct rival on deadline day.
The expectation is that Tottenham will not throw him straight into the deep end. Match sharpness will be an issue after such a long absence, and he is likely to be eased back into action.
Even so, there is a date already circled.
Mudryk could make his Spurs debut away at Nottingham Forest on Saturday. If the paperwork is done and the fitness checks out, the sight of him back on a Premier League pitch in a different shade of blue will pose a simple question: is this a rescue act for a stalled career, or the start of one of the most expensive redemption stories in English football?
