St Patrick's Athletic Faces Bohemians in FAI Cup Quarter-Finals

St Patrick's Athletic have been handed another Dublin derby in the Club Orange FAI Cup – and this one comes with a heavy dose of recent history.

Days after dumping out holders Shamrock Rovers, the Saints have been paired with Bohemians in the quarter-finals, a home tie that doubles as a straight rematch of the 2023 final. Richmond Park will feel familiar, but the stakes will not be any softer. The Gypsies know exactly what this fixture can do to a season.

The draw served up a heavyweight clash in the northwest as well. Derry City will face Dundalk at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium, a meeting of two clubs who expect to be in the conversation when trophies are handed out. One of them will be gone before the semi-finals.

The other half of the draw drags the league’s strugglers into the spotlight. Drogheda United will host Galway United, a tie that offers both clubs a rare shot of momentum in a difficult campaign. At the RSC, resurgent Waterford FC will welcome Sligo Rovers, with the home side sensing a real chance to turn cup form into something bigger.

All four quarter-finals are scheduled for the weekend of 4–6 September, with RTÉ Sport set to screen two of the ties live.

By then, we’ll know which clubs have turned this draw into a launchpad – and which have watched their season shrink in the space of 90 minutes.
