Sparta Rotterdam Nears Loan Deal for PSV Midfielder Isaac Babadi
Sparta Rotterdam are closing in on a loan deal for PSV midfielder Isaac Babadi, with the move expected to be confirmed before the end of Deadline Day, according to Eindhovens Dagblad.
The 21-year-old has struggled to carve out a place in Peter Bosz’s first-team plans at the Philips Stadion. Despite being under contract with PSV until mid-2028 and already making 35 official appearances for the club – with three goals and one assist – his pathway has stalled. His last outing for PSV’s first team dates back to May of last year.
Interest in Babadi had built in recent days. On Tuesday, Voetbal International reported that both Fortuna Sittard and Sparta were pushing to bring him in. Sparta have now moved to the front of the queue and look set to win that race.
The Rotterdam side will not take on Babadi’s full salary, but will cover part of his wages as part of the agreement with PSV. The deal stands apart from Ayoni Santos’ recent move in the opposite direction, from Sparta to PSV.
Babadi spent last season on loan at Royal Antwerp FC, where he made 21 official appearances. Now, with minutes in Eindhoven hard to come by, Sparta offer him something he has been missing for too long: a genuine shot at regular Eredivisie football.
