Sofie Lundgaard Leaves Liverpool for Eintracht Frankfurt

Sofie Lundgaard’s stop-start Liverpool chapter is over. The midfielder has sealed a permanent move to Eintracht Frankfurt, drawing a line under an injury-ravaged spell on Merseyside.

The 24-year-old arrived at Liverpool in January 2023 and went on to make 42 appearances, a tally that hints at her quality but never quite tells the full story. Two anterior cruciate ligament injuries across three-and-a-half years with the club repeatedly halted her momentum and restricted her involvement just as she looked ready to push on.

Now she heads to the Frauen-Bundesliga, joining an Eintracht Frankfurt side with European ambitions and a reputation for developing technically sharp, hard-running midfielders. Before Liverpool, Lundgaard built her name at Danish side Fortuna Hjorring, and Frankfurt will hope to see more of that version: fit, influential, and central to the game rather than fighting to get back on the pitch.

While Lundgaard moves on, another potential transfer involving an attacking talent has hit a wall.

Birmingham City have seen a bid for Sevilla winger Fatou Kanteh turned down, with the Spanish club holding firm over one of their key forwards. The Women’s Super League side are understood to have offered around 100,000 Euros (£85,000) for the Gambia international, but Sevilla value her significantly higher and do not intend to sell.

That stance looks decisive. Birmingham are not expected to return with an improved offer for the 29-year-old, who has spent her entire senior career in Liga F.

Kanteh has scored 12 goals in 63 matches for Sevilla, having previously represented Villarreal, Huelva and Logrono. Those numbers, combined with her top-flight experience in Spain, explain why Sevilla are in no rush to cash in – and why Birmingham may have to look elsewhere for wide attacking firepower.
