Search for Former QPR Midfielder Akos Buzsáky

Hungarian police have launched a search for former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Akos Buzsáky, who has been missing for more than a week.

The 44-year-old, a one-time Hungary international and a familiar name to fans of the English game, was officially listed as missing on August 18, according to police records cited by the Sun.

Former QPR Favourite Missing

Buzsáky, who lit up the Championship and briefly the Premier League in the late 2000s and early 2010s, has spent recent years far from the spotlight. After retiring from professional football in 2013, he moved into construction contracting and has been spending long stretches of time working in Greece.

It is from that quieter, post-football life that he has now disappeared.

Hungarian authorities confirmed they have been trying to trace his whereabouts since mid-August. No further official details have been released on the circumstances of his disappearance.

Before his off-field life took him to building sites in Greece, Buzsáky built a solid reputation on English pitches.

The midfielder first made his name at Plymouth Argyle, where his technique and eye for goal quickly drew attention. A move to Queens Park Rangers followed, and it was at Loftus Road that he enjoyed his highest-profile spell.

Buzsáky featured in the Premier League during the 2011/12 season with QPR, scoring twice in the top flight. His time in England wound down with a stint at Portsmouth in League One, where he eventually called time on his playing career in 2013.

For Hungary, he earned international recognition, adding caps for his country to a club résumé that spanned both the Championship and the Premier League.

As the search continues, Buzsáky’s family have been left trying to piece together what has happened.

His father, Ákos Buzsáky Sr., told Hungarian outlet Blikk he had no idea his son had been reported missing or that police were involved.

"I didn't know that the police were also looking for my son. He basically spends a lot of time in Greece, where he works as a construction contractor. He spent almost the entire last year there," he said.

Reports in Hungary state that Buzsáky no longer lives with the mother of his two daughters. His own mother has also been actively looking for him in recent days and is believed to be the person who first alerted authorities to his disappearance.

As things stand, there has been no public update from police on any breakthrough in the search.
