Santiago Bueno Joins Club America on Loan from Wolves

Santiago Bueno’s Wolves spell has been put on pause, and his next stop is one of the giants of Mexican football.

The 27-year-old Uruguay international has joined Club America on loan until the end of the season, leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers after failing to make a competitive appearance in the early weeks of the campaign. The deal includes an option for the Liga MX leaders to make the move permanent.

Bueno arrived at Molineux from Girona in August 2023 on a five-year contract, seen then as a long-term piece of Wolves’ defensive core. He went on to make 70 Premier League appearances across three seasons, growing into a regular presence at the back.

His standout moment in gold came last September, when he scored his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw against Tottenham. He featured 29 times in the league last term, a gruelling season that ended in relegation and brought an eight-year stay in the top flight to an abrupt close.

This season, though, the picture changed. With Wolves reshaping their squad for life in the Championship and competition fierce for places, Bueno found himself on the outside looking in and was left out of the 25-man group.

“This was our most difficult move of the whole window due to the circumstances,” technical director Matt Jackson told Wolves’ website. “We were aware that there were open markets which may suit Santi after our deadline, and when we had too many players for the 25-man squad, it was unfortunately him who missed out.”

That opened the door for Club America, who sit top of the Liga MX table and have moved aggressively to reinforce a side already pushing for silverware. For Bueno, it is a fresh stage, a new continent, and a chance to reassert himself at one of the most demanding clubs in the Americas.

For Wolves, it is a clean decision in a crowded defensive department. For Club America, it could be a title-defining gamble.
