Safia Middleton-Patel Joins Watford for Full Season

Safia Middleton-Patel will spend the entire 2026-27 season at Watford after completing a loan move from Manchester United.

The Wales international returns to the Hornets having impressed during a short spell there in the second half of the 2023-24 campaign. This time it is not a brief cameo. It is a full-season assignment in Women's Super League 2 and a clear chance to establish herself as a first-choice goalkeeper.

At 21, Middleton-Patel has already ticked off some major milestones in Manchester red. She made her senior debut for United against Newcastle United in December 2024, a significant step for a young keeper coming through at one of the game's biggest clubs.

She went on to make three appearances under Marc Skinner last season, including a standout occasion at Old Trafford in United's Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain. Those minutes, under that kind of spotlight, have sharpened her credentials for regular football.

United underlined their interest in her development in a brief club statement, saying: "We will be tracking Saf's progress closely and wish her the very best of luck."

Now comes the real test: a full campaign with Watford, a new dressing room to command, and a season to prove she can be more than just one for the future.
