His potential caught the eye of Bayern Munich, who signed him in 2022. At Liverpool, he was a sensation a couple of seasons back.”
Hamann noted challenges faced last season, including internal team tensions around Mohamed Salah and the struggles of new signings like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. He explained the importance of Gravenberch’s role in quickly distributing the ball to wingers, emphasizing that if forwards fail to capitalize, criticism often unfairly lands on the midfielder.
“If you give them balls and they don’t do anything, people ask, ‘what did Gravenberch actually do?’ But if a goal starts with him, then he gets credit. It’s a tough position because your impact depends on those ahead of you.”
Despite occasional dips in form, Hamann praised Gravenberch’s power, vision, and defensive awareness. He believes Liverpool will need Gravenberch if they hope to return to their previous heights, though the path won’t be easy.
