Ronald Araujo's Strong Performance for Liverpool Amid Barcelona Affection

Ronald Araujo walked off the Anfield pitch with three points in his pocket and Barcelona still on his mind.

On loan at Liverpool from the Catalan club, the Uruguayan centre-back delivered a commanding display in Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid, then openly admitted he remains emotionally tied to his parent club.

Speaking to "Movistar Liga de Campeones" after the game, Araujo was asked about Barcelona’s prospects in this season’s Champions League. He did not hesitate.

"Definitely, Barcelona are among the leading contenders to win the Champions League," he said. "They are performing brilliantly."

There was no attempt to hide where his heart still lies. Araujo explained that he keeps a close eye on everything happening at Barcelona and takes pride in what his former teammates are doing under Hansi Flick.

"I follow them. I am very happy for my team-mates," he said. "They have a great side. I always support them, and I am very grateful for what they are achieving now."

Those words came on the back of a performance that underlined exactly why Liverpool and Barcelona value him so highly. Under Andoni Iraola, Araujo has become a central figure, and against Atletico he was pivotal.

With Liverpool chasing the game, the defender produced one of the night’s standout moments inside the box: a deft backheel touch that unlocked the defence and set up Dominik Szoboszlai to deliver the cross that beat Jan Oblak for the equaliser.

Araujo may be wearing red this season, but his gaze still drifts back to Barcelona. If Flick’s side do go deep in the Champions League, few players will watch their run as closely as the man anchoring Liverpool’s back line.
