Romelu Lukaku has landed in Istanbul, and Fenerbahce have their statement striker.

The Turkish giants confirmed the signing of the former Manchester United forward on Wednesday, ending weeks of speculation and sending a clear signal in their pursuit of a first league title in more than a decade. The club did not disclose the length of the 33-year-old Belgian’s contract or the transfer fee involved.

Lukaku addressed Fenerbahce supporters directly in a video on social media, sounding like a man impatient to get started.

"It's an honour and a privilege to be joining your club and to join this club," he said. "I'm fit, 100 percent, ready to go."

For Fenerbahce, those last words matter most. Lukaku’s career has been glittering and punishing in equal measure. From Chelsea to Manchester United to Inter Milan, he has carried the weight of expectation wherever he has gone, and his body has often paid the price. Yet his numbers remain elite: he is Belgium’s all-time top scorer, with 93 international goals.

His most recent club chapter was a turbulent one. Lukaku joined Napoli in the summer of 2024 and instantly hit the heights, helping deliver the Scudetto in his debut season. The story then turned. An untimely injury and a breakdown in relations with the club’s hierarchy left him on the fringes, restricted to just 64 minutes of league action last season.

Even that disruption could not keep him out of the national team. Belgium still turned to their record marksman for the 2026 World Cup, and he responded, scoring three times as the Red Devils reached the quarter-finals before bowing out to eventual champions Spain.

Now comes a fresh stage and a different kind of pressure.

Fenerbahce load up in attack

Lukaku’s arrival dramatically thickens Fenerbahce’s attacking options. The club have already brought in former Manchester United winger Mason Greenwood, adding pace and unpredictability on the flanks. With Lukaku through the middle, they gain a focal point with power, presence and a proven eye for goal.
