Roma Eye Free Agents: Zaha, Diatta, and Guerreiro as Options
Atalanta are looming on the fixture list, but at Trigoria the squad sheet is still under the microscope. One gap, in particular, refuses to go away.
The summer window closed without the left-sided reinforcement Gian Piero Gasperini had asked for, so Roma have turned to the only market still open: free agents. The club are not in a rush, but they are not standing still either.
The line from the club is simple enough: move only if the right opportunity appears, one that genuinely fits the coach’s demands rather than just filling a space on the bench.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, one name ticks several of those boxes: Wilfried Zaha. The Ivorian, who came close to joining Roma back in 2023, is currently unattached after his last spell and can be signed without a transfer fee. His profile, experience and versatility keep him firmly in the conversation.
He is not alone on the list. Krépin Diatta is also being evaluated. The Senegalese wide player is a free agent after his most recent season with Monaco and offers a different kind of option for the flank.
Then there is Raphael Guerreiro. At 32, the Portuguese, fresh from last season at Bayern Munich, would bring proven quality and tactical intelligence to the left side. His ability to operate both as a full-back and higher up the pitch makes him a serious candidate for that role.
Roma watch Atalanta on the horizon and the free-agent pool at their feet. The next move will say a lot about how bold they intend to be this season.
