Richarlison Expresses Frustration Over Failed Vasco da Gama Move

Richarlison has laid bare his frustration over a failed return to Vasco da Gama, insisting he turned down other offers to try to force through a move back to Rio de Janeiro.

Speaking directly to Vasco fans in a personal Instagram video, the Tottenham forward said he had made the Brazilian club his clear priority, only for Spurs to block the deal on their terms.

“Other offers were made to me but I made it very clear I wanted to join Vasco until December,” Richarlison said. “Unfortunately, Tottenham set a limit on the loan, which is why it didn’t work out. I think I’ll be at Sao Januario soon, and in Barreira, and you know how fond I am of you all.

“One day I’m going to make this dream come true; it’s my dream, my grandfather’s dream, and my family’s dream. I’m speaking from the heart here because I really wanted to play for Vasco.”

Those words underline just how far his club career has drifted from where he expected it to be.

Last season, Richarlison finished as Tottenham’s top scorer in the Premier League, hitting 11 goals and playing a key role in steering the club away from the threat of a shock relegation. He carried their attack through difficult stretches, often as the only consistent source of goals.

Now he finds himself frozen out.

Despite that contribution, the Brazilian has been left out of Spurs’ Premier League squad entirely for the current campaign. The signing of Omar Marmoush from Manchester City has pushed him further down the hierarchy, closing off what little route back to regular minutes he might have had.

The impact has been brutal. Richarlison has featured just once in the league this season, a bruising 3-0 defeat to Brentford on the opening weekend. Since then, nothing.

All of this comes as he enters the final 12 months of the five-year contract he signed when he joined Tottenham from Everton in 2022. His heart is in Rio, his registration is in north London, and his future sits in limbo.

He has made his dream clear. The question now is whether Tottenham will ever let him chase it.
