Real Madrid Prioritizes Yan Diomande Signing Over Rodri Deal

Real Madrid has decided to delay finalizing the transfer of Rodri Hernandez, the midfielder from Manchester City and Spain’s national team. Though a deal seemed close to completion, the club is currently prioritizing the signing of Ivorian forward Yan Diomande. Madrid is near the end of the process to secure Diomande, with paperwork almost complete.

The Spanish daily AS reports that the plan to sign Rodri was approved earlier this week by president Florentino Perez, following weeks of uncertainty at the club's Valdebebas headquarters. However, recent transfers and squad changes have shifted attention elsewhere, delaying Rodri's deal.

Diomande’s transfer is in its final phase, with only minor formalities remaining. Both clubs have agreed on a contract lasting five seasons. Club officials are working to reassure Diomande while aiming to have him join training under coach Jose Mourinho before the week ends.

Originally, Real Madrid had hoped to wrap up Diomande’s arrival early this week, but disagreements over contract clauses caused unexpected delays. This has kept the Ivorian from linking up with his new teammates as soon as planned.

Regarding Rodri, the anticipated talks with Manchester City scheduled for Thursday have been postponed. The club’s interest remains strong, but other priorities have taken precedence.

AS notes that internal debates about Rodri’s suitability accelerated after his impressive World Cup performances, especially in the semi-final and final matches. Once considered a secondary target, his technical skill and physical form convinced Madrid’s leadership that he fits their needs. His transfer fee could approach 100 million euros.
