RB Leipzig Signs Marc Guiu from Chelsea on Long-Term Deal
RB Leipzig have moved decisively in the transfer market, landing Spanish centre-forward Marc Guiu from Chelsea on a long-term deal running until June 2031, in a move that underlines both their ambition and their faith in youth.
The 18-year-old arrives in Saxony after a summer of noise around his future, with clubs across Europe circling. Leipzig’s vision, and their track record with young talent, won the race.
“Joining RB Leipzig is exactly the right step for me. The club made a real effort to bring me here and, in our talks, gave me a clear idea of the role I can play in the team," Guiu said, outlining a move that feels carefully chosen rather than opportunistic.
From La Masia prodigy to Premier League bottleneck
Guiu’s path has never been dull. He broke through at Barcelona at just 17, a teenage striker thrown into the glare of one of football’s most demanding stages. Chelsea swooped soon after, hailing his arrival from La Masia as a coup and another statement of intent in their aggressive youth-focused rebuild.
The reality was harsher.
Chelsea’s swollen squad left him fighting for minutes. He struggled to secure a consistent place in the starting XI in the Premier League, squeezed by competition and constant rotation. The pursuit did not start this summer. Leipzig’s recruitment team have tracked him closely since he left La Masia, following his development while he tried to carve out a role at Chelsea.
“We’ve been in contact with him for a long time and have followed his development very closely, so we’re delighted that he has chosen RB Leipzig. We’re convinced he has the quality and mentality to make an immediate impact, while he still has plenty of room to develop further,” Schäfer added.
That line matters. Immediate impact, but still room to grow. It sums up the Leipzig model and the expectations now placed on Guiu.

He has already worn the shirts of Barcelona and Chelsea, two giants where patience is thin and opportunities can vanish overnight.
