Raheem Sterling Charged with Dangerous Driving and Nitrous Oxide Possession

Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide after a motorway crash involving a Lamborghini, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed.

The incident took place on 28 May on the M3 southbound near the Minley interchange and involved only Sterling’s vehicle. Police said no injuries were reported.

The 31-year-old former England forward faces three charges: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, and failing to provide a specimen.

Sterling, who is from Berkshire, is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on 15 September.

International Career

Once a key figure for Gareth Southgate’s England, Sterling scored 20 goals in 82 appearances for his country, playing a central role in the run to the 2018 World Cup semi-finals and the Euro 2020 final.

Club Career

He rose through the academy at QPR before breaking through at Liverpool, where he made his senior debut and quickly emerged as one of the Premier League’s brightest young forwards.

A major move to Manchester City followed in 2015. There, Sterling’s career reached its peak: four Premier League titles, five League Cups and the FA Cup in 2019 underlined his status as one of the most decorated English players of his generation.

He joined Chelsea in 2022 but slipped down the pecking order and spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Arsenal. After leaving Stamford Bridge, he signed a short-term deal with Feyenoord until the end of the season.

Sterling, born in Kingston, Jamaica and long established as a headline name in European football, is currently without a club as he prepares for his court appearance.
