Raheem Sterling Charged with Dangerous Driving After M3 Crash

Raheem Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide following a late-night crash on the M3 in May.

Police confirmed the former England winger, 31, will appear at Basingstoke magistrates’ court on 15 September to face three charges arising from the incident in Hampshire.

The case stems from a single-vehicle collision on 28 May 2026, involving a Lamborghini on the southbound carriageway of the M3 near the Minley Interchange, close to England’s south coast. No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.

A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman told BBC News: “A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3.

“Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen.”

The crash marks a stark off-field twist in the career of a player who, at his peak, stood at the heart of England’s modern era.

Sterling has been without a club since leaving Dutch side Feyenoord at the end of last season, his future at club level already uncertain before this latest development.

For England, he earned 82 caps and scored 20 goals, a central figure as the Three Lions reached the 2018 World Cup semifinals and the Euro 2020 final. At club level, he has worn the shirts of some of the country’s biggest teams, including Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Now, instead of debating his next move in the transfer market, attention turns to that court date in Basingstoke and what it might mean for the next chapter of his career.
