Queens Park Rangers' Promising Start: Caution from Ian McCullough

Queens Park Rangers’ encouraging start has caught the eye, but one long-time observer is urging a bit of restraint.

Ian McCullough, QPR supporter and journalist, sees clear signs of progress in the early weeks of the season, particularly in the depth at Marti Cifuentes’ disposal.

“At Blackburn at the weekend, they won the game through the strength of the bench,” McCullough said. “They've got a real quality on the bench that they didn't have last season. In that kind of side the club has progressed.”

The impact substitutes at Ewood Park underlined a shift from last year’s thin squad, when options beyond the starting XI often felt limited and late changes rarely swung matches.

But McCullough is not ready to declare a transformation on the back of a handful of results.

He points out that QPR’s early fixtures have come against opposition they would expect to handle.

“As I keep saying with QPR, they've played three teams really that they should be beating – Blackburn, Portsmouth, Bolton,” he said. “Had they lost any of those games, questions would be asked.”

The message is clear: there is growth, there is depth, and there is momentum. Now QPR must prove this stronger squad can stand up when the calibre of opponent rises and the pressure really bites.
