PSG Close to Signing Ajax Winger Mika Godts

Paris Saint-Germain are edging towards a deal for Ajax winger Mika Godts – and the moment that happens, the path is expected to clear for Bradley Barcola to head for Liverpool.

The two transfers are now effectively tied together. PSG have told Liverpool they are prepared to soften their stance on Barcola’s fee, but only if the Premier League side move far closer to the French club’s valuation.

Godts deal drives PSG’s reshuffle

Talks between PSG and Ajax over Godts have accelerated. A fresh offer from the French champions is now understood to be close to Ajax’s asking price, with an agreement for the 21-year-old anticipated as early as this weekend.

Inside the club, Godts has been identified as Barcola’s direct replacement. His signing is seen as the trigger that finally allows PSG to let the France international go after weeks of resistance.

Agent Jorge Mendes is involved in the negotiations and has been instrumental in pushing the Godts deal forward. The transfer is expected to come in at around €50million, a fee PSG are willing to pay to unlock the rest of their attacking succession plan.

Once Godts is through the door, PSG believe they will have the flexibility to approve Barcola’s departure, having initially held out with a firm £145m valuation.

Liverpool in pole position – but short on price

Barcola, for his part, has already made his intentions clear. He has agreed personal terms with Liverpool, and his preference for a move to Anfield has never wavered during the talks.

Arsenal have monitored the situation and held discussions over the 23-year-old, but the London club remain on the fringes. Those close to the process still see Liverpool as the frontrunners, with Barcola ready to make the switch once the clubs can align on a fee.

That is where the gap remains.

Liverpool currently value a potential deal at around £100million. PSG sources believe they could ultimately settle for a package closer to £125million. If that compromise is found, Barcola would still be in line to become the most expensive British transfer of all time, eclipsing last summer’s record move for Alexander Isak to Newcastle.

PSG have made it clear there is now room to negotiate. They want Liverpool to make a significant step up from their current offer, but the hard-line stance has softened as the Godts talks near completion.

PSG’s wider attacking puzzle

This is not an isolated move from PSG. It is part of a wider rebuild of their forward line.

Ferran Torres already has an agreement in place to arrive from Barcelona, earmarked as the replacement for Goncalo Ramos. Maghnes Akliouche has been brought in to take over from Lee Kang-In. Within that structure, Godts is the piece reserved specifically to fill the void Barcola would leave.

That clarity explains PSG’s urgency with Ajax. If a deal for Godts is wrapped up this weekend, the final barrier to Barcola’s exit will be reduced to one question: how far are Liverpool willing to stretch?

For now, the chessboard is almost set. Godts is closing on Paris. Barcola is waiting for Liverpool. And PSG, at last, are ready to deal.
