Porto–Roma Talks Stall Over Rodrigo Mora Demands

Porto have slammed the brakes on negotiations with Roma for Rodrigo Mora, leaving one of the summer’s most intriguing deals stuck in neutral.

The Portuguese club walked away from the table yesterday morning after Roma refused to accept a package that would have pushed the move into eye-watering territory for a player still filed under “young talent” rather than finished article.

Porto’s request was blunt: a €10 million loan fee, a €40 million option to buy, clauses that could easily turn that option into an obligation, performance-related bonuses, and a percentage of any future sale. Add it all up and the Giallorossi were staring at a structure that, in practical terms, tied them to a massive long-term commitment.

Roma pushed back. Hard. The Italian side rejected those terms, and the atmosphere between the clubs has turned tense, according to Portuguese outlet Ojogo.

The deal, though, is not dead.

Jorge Mendes has stepped in as mediator, working the channels, but there were no direct contacts between Porto and Roma yesterday. For now, the file sits on the desk, untouched, while the numbers continue to do the talking.

Roma are cornered into a simple but uncomfortable choice: accept Porto’s conditions as they are, or come back with an improved formula for the obligation to buy that satisfies the Dragoes’ demands.

The next move will say a lot about how much Roma truly believe in Rodrigo Mora.
