Piero Ausilio Departs Inter Milan After 28 Years
Piero Ausilio is preparing to walk away from Inter Milan, bringing the curtain down on a 28-year story that has helped shape the club’s modern identity.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the long-serving sporting director has already informed Inter that he will not extend his contract, which runs until June 2027. Inside the club, the message has landed like a jolt: one of the pillars of the Nerazzurri’s revival is getting ready for his final season.
From youth secretary to transfer architect
Ausilio arrived at Inter in 1998, tucked away in the youth sector as a secretary. No headlines, no fanfare. Over time he climbed every rung of the ladder, eventually taking the sporting director role in 2010 and turning it into one of the most influential positions at the club.
From that seat, he became the quiet architect behind some of Europe’s smartest business. Working in tandem with Beppe Marotta, Ausilio helped build title-winning squads while repeatedly outmanoeuvring rivals in the market.
He specialised in deals that looked modest on paper but changed Inter’s trajectory: free transfers and low-cost arrivals like Hakan Calhanoglu and Marcus Thuram, major outgoing sales that balanced the books, and, crucially, the discovery and signing of Lautaro Martinez, now club captain and symbol of the project.

Even as talk of his exit grows, Ausilio’s influence on the current Inter side is unmistakable. He oversaw the latest summer reinforcements and secured a long-term extension for Pio Esposito, a move aimed squarely at protecting the club’s future.
Despite that, there has been no sign yet of a counter-offer or a last-ditch attempt from the hierarchy to change his mind.
