Omar Marmoush Set for Tottenham Move After Manchester City Exit
Omar Marmoush is on the brink of swapping Manchester blue for north London white, with his move to Tottenham Hotspur now in its final stretch.
The Egypt international has said his goodbyes at Manchester City and been given the green light to undergo a medical with Spurs, a key step before the deal is rubber-stamped.
Spurs close in after weeks of noise
David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that Marmoush is already preparing for those tests, edging him to within touching distance of a Tottenham debut. The deal has been building for weeks, fuelled by the forward’s push for more minutes and City’s stacked front line.
Tottenham are set to take Marmoush on loan with an obligation to buy for £50 million, plus £10 million in add-ons. Of that extra £10m, £5m is guaranteed. It’s a structure that gives Spurs short-term flexibility but leaves little doubt: this is effectively a big-money permanent signing.
The 25-year-old is expected to sign a four-year contract, with an option for a fifth. Eintracht Frankfurt, the club that sold him to City, will not receive a percentage of any future resale, a notable detail in an era dominated by sell-on clauses.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has backed up the details, stating that Marmoush is due to sign for Spurs on Thursday, pending the medical and final paperwork.
From Frankfurt form to City frustration
Marmoush only joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025, riding a wave of outstanding Bundesliga form into the Premier League. The move looked like a major step up, a chance to test himself among Europe’s elite.
He never truly settled into a starting role.
Competition in City’s attack was relentless. Across all competitions last season, Marmoush scored eight goals but started just 16 matches. Those numbers underline the problem: productive in flashes, but never trusted as a consistent first choice.
That imbalance pushed him toward the exit. He wanted a bigger stage, not just a bigger club badge. Tottenham are offering him that opportunity.
Tottenham’s expensive rebuild continues
This transfer slots into a huge summer of spending at Spurs. The club have already splashed out more than £300 million as they attempt to rebuild after a grim 17th-place finish in the Premier League last season.
Marmoush’s arrival follows the completion of another major deal with City: the signing of Brazilian winger Savinho for £75 million plus £10 million in add-ons. Spurs had moved for Marmoush at the same time as they were negotiating for Savinho, keeping both tracks running in parallel before finally closing the Brazilian’s transfer.
English reports had already outlined the Marmoush framework: a loan from City with a £50 million buy clause that becomes obligatory once certain conditions are met. Those conditions are now seen as a formality, with both clubs aligned on the outcome.
Talks accelerated sharply in recent days. With the fee, structure, and personal terms agreed, only the medical and final signatures separate Marmoush from being unveiled as a Tottenham player.
De Zerbi’s new weapon
For Roberto De Zerbi, this is a key piece of his attacking rebuild. Tottenham have stumbled out of the blocks this season, their forward line lacking both cutting edge and variety.
Marmoush offers something different: a mobile, aggressive striker who can stretch defences, press from the front, and still provide a goal threat. He arrives not as a squad option, but as a central figure in a new-look attack.
Pass the medical, sign the contract, and Marmoush starts a second English chapter. The first was about fighting for relevance at a superclub. The next one, under De Zerbi in north London, will be about proving he can lead the line for a team desperate to climb back into the Premier League’s elite.
