Nottingham Forest Break Transfer Record for Liam Delap

Nottingham Forest have smashed their transfer record to land Liam Delap from Chelsea in a deal that could hit £50m.

Forest have agreed to pay at least £45m for the striker, with performance-related add-ons taking the package to a potential £50m, making it the most expensive signing in the club’s history. Delap is due to undergo a medical on Wednesday as the move edges towards completion.

The 21-year-old had attracted interest from several Premier League sides, including Everton, but Forest have won the race for his signature and moved decisively to close the deal.

Chelsea only signed Delap last summer from Ipswich Town for £30m and had been holding out for around £50m in this window. They now bank a £15m profit on a player who scored two goals in 41 appearances last season.

For Forest, the move underlines a dramatic shift in spending power. Their previous record buy came just a year earlier, when Omari Hutchison arrived from Ipswich Town for £37.5m in August 2025.

Now they are going even bigger on Delap — a statement that Forest intend to fight their battles near the top end of the Premier League market, not the bottom.
