Neymar's Family Company Clears Debt, Lifting Santos' FIFA Transfer Ban

Santos have had their FIFA transfer ban removed thanks to a timely financial move by NR Sports, the agency owned by Neymar’s family. The company paid off an outstanding debt of £1.7 million owed to Monaco related to midfielder Jean Lucas, allowing the Brazilian club to resume signing players.

Financial Relief Lifts Sanction

The ban, which had stopped Santos from registering new players since July, was tied to a R$12 million (£1.7m/$2.3m) debt. Thanks to NR Sports injecting funds, the debt was cleared and the embargo lifted. In exchange, Santos and NR Sports will collaborate on negotiating and marketing unallocated kit sponsorship slots.

Official Confirmation from Santos

The club confirmed the resolution in a statement released on Thursday: "Santos FC have settled the Transfer Ban and are once again clear to operate in the transfer market. The operation was made possible thanks to the support of NR Sports, through which the Club received an immediate financial injection. In return, Santos FC and the company will jointly negotiate kit sponsorship inventory that has not yet been commercialised."

Squad Reinforcements Targeted as Relegation Looms

This urgent financial aid comes as Santos deals with a deep squad crisis and ongoing debts estimated at around £13 million. With the ban lifted, they can now push forward with signing former Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, identified as a key target by Diario Sport. Arthur is expected to strengthen the team as they fight to avoid relegation.

Upcoming Challenges for Santos

Santos face a crucial match against Corinthians this weekend, trying to maintain their slim two-point lead above the relegation zone in the Campeonato Brasileiro. Neymar is set to return after missing the 3-0 loss to Palmeiras in the Copa do Brasil quarter-final first leg. The club must balance closing the aggregate gap at Vila Belmiro and securing vital league points against a team led by Memphis Depay.
