Napoli Targets Gabriel Jesus Amid Summer Strategy

Napoli have set their sights on Gabriel Jesus – and the entire summer strategy is being bent to make it happen.

The Serie A club, as reported by TuttoMercatoweb, have placed the Arsenal forward at the top of their attacking wishlist. At 29, with title-winning pedigree and Champions League experience, the Brazilian has been identified as the ideal piece to spearhead a reshaped front line under Massimiliano Allegri.

But to bring him in, Napoli first had to clear the board.

Lukaku exit unlocks the move

The key move in this transfer puzzle was the permanent departure of Romelu Lukaku. Frozen out and surplus to Allegri’s plans, the Belgian has now completed a switch to Fenerbahce in a deal worth around €6 million (£5.1m).

That transfer does more than tidy up the squad list. Lukaku’s exit carves a sizeable hole in the wage bill, giving Napoli the financial breathing space to go after Jesus without straying into trouble with spending regulations. Club executives see that as the green light to push on, with further outgoing deals – including a possible move for Lorenzo Lucca – viewed as extra fuel for a major attacking investment.

Allegri wants a different profile up front. Napoli’s hierarchy know they cannot deliver that without first trimming a heavily populated squad. Now, with Lukaku gone, the real chase can start.

Arsenal ready to sell, Jesus ready to listen

On Arsenal’s side, the stance is clear. The club are prepared to cash in this summer rather than risk losing Jesus for nothing when his contract runs down next year. The Gunners are understood to be asking for around €20m (£17m) for the former Manchester City forward.

Jesus is entering the final 12 months of his deal at the Emirates and sits among the highest earners in Mikel Arteta’s squad. That alone makes him a logical candidate to move on as Arsenal look to reallocate wages and strengthen in other areas.

Injury problems over the past year have not helped his cause. Once a central figure in Arteta’s attack, the Brazilian has slipped down the pecking order and now finds himself behind both Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres in the battle for minutes through the middle.

All of that opens the door for Napoli. And Jesus, according to TuttoMercatoweb, is not just listening – he is keen.

The forward is said to be fully open to the idea of moving to Naples and is even reportedly willing to reduce his current £265,000-a-week salary to smooth the deal. For a club trying to balance ambition with financial discipline, that stance is crucial.

Branchini’s visit stokes the fire

The rumours intensified when Jesus’ agent, Giovanni Branchini, was spotted at Napoli’s pre-season camp in Castel di Sangro. Branchini publicly insisted he was only there to visit Allegri, but his presence at the heart of Napoli’s preparations inevitably sent speculation into overdrive.

Inside the club, there is a sense that the timing is right. With Lukaku already out and further departures on the table, Napoli now have the funds lined up and the squad space cleared. Arsenal are waiting for a formal bid. Napoli, for the first time this summer, look ready to launch one.

A new partnership in the making

If the two clubs can quickly find an agreement on the fee and structure, the path is straightforward. Jesus would travel to Italy for his medical and, once the paperwork is done, slot into an attack built around a new partnership with Rasmus Hojlund.

Allegri has long favoured intelligent, hard-working forwards who can press, link play and finish. Jesus ticks all of those boxes. Hojlund brings power and vertical threat. On paper, it is a combination that could reshape Napoli’s attack.

The pieces are finally in place. Now it comes down to one decision: will Napoli turn this carefully constructed “transfer Tetris” into the signing that defines their season?
