Mohamed Salah Welcomes Son Leil in Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has slipped quietly back into Liverpool, not for a transfer twist or a farewell lap, but for something far more personal. His wife has given birth to their third child – and their first son – in the city that became their family’s second home.

The former Liverpool forward, who left Anfield in the summer after agreeing to terminate his contract a year early, returned to the north west for the arrival. His sister, Rabab, announced on social media that the couple had welcomed a baby boy, revealing his name: Leil – Arabic for “night”.

Salah, now 34 and playing his club football in Turkey with Trabzonspor, has been juggling a new chapter on and off the pitch. Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan revealed that Salah was not the only high‑profile player celebrating.

Speaking to 61saat, Dogan said: "After the (Amed SK) match, I travelled abroad with Salah and Andre Onana. Both of them had new children, Onana had twins and Salah a baby boy. I congratulate their families and their wives.”

For Salah, the milestone comes with deep roots. His wife, Magi, is his childhood sweetheart; both grew up in Nagrig, the small Egyptian town that shaped his early life. She later trained as a biotechnician, and the pair married in 2013. Their family grew as his career exploded: daughter Makka arrived in 2014, followed by Kayan in 2020. Now Leil joins a household that has lived almost entirely in the glare of elite football.

Liverpool was the backdrop to most of that journey. Salah and his family spent close to a decade on Merseyside and had expected to stay longer. He signed a two-year deal in 2025, only for club and player to tear it up 12 months early. The split did not change how he spoke about the city or what it meant to his family.

“They feel at home [here]. They were very happy, [wife] Magi and the kids, they were very happy that we're staying another two years. It feels like home so everyone was happy,” he said previously, underlining just how embedded they had become.

Now his base is Trabzon, and life there has been anything but calm. His short spell in Turkey has already seen head coach Fatih Tekke depart suddenly, the exit coming on the back of a bruising 5-0 aggregate defeat to Ferencvaros in the Europa League play-offs. A new country, a new club, a new project – and already a major setback.

Salah responded the way he often has in his career: publicly, and with defiance. In a statement on social media after that European exit, he wrote: "Nothing in my career ever came easy. Bad nights and disappointments are part of football, and I have learned to turn them into motivation and into trophies. Trabzonspor is my club, and I am part of this project, body and soul. Last night will not change that. I know expectations are high, and I truly believe we can and will deliver. “I came here to win” is not just a slogan to me."

A new son in Liverpool, a turbulent start in Trabzon, and the same relentless drive that has defined him. As Leil begins his life, Salah’s own next chapter is already demanding answers.
