Mikey Moore Close to Cologne Loan as Tottenham Makes Double Signing

Mikey Moore is on the brink of a move to 1. FC Köln, with only the final details of a loan deal still to be tied up, according to Bild. The agreement with the 19-year-old Tottenham Hotspur winger has reportedly been in place for some time. What was missing was the word of Roberto De Zerbi.

Now the Spurs head coach has given it.

De Zerbi had initially blocked Moore’s departure. He wanted the teenager in his squad and backed that up with his team selection: Moore started in Tottenham’s Premier League opener, a bruising 3-0 home defeat to Brentford. For a club trying to reset under a new coach, throwing a 19-year-old into the first XI was a clear sign of trust — and of need.

That need is about to ease. And that changes everything.

English outlets report that Spurs have struck a double deal with Manchester City for Savinho and Omar Marmoush, with a combined fee of around €185 million. Under Enzo Maresca, the pair have barely featured for the champions, but for Tottenham they represent major attacking reinforcements and instant competition in the forward line.

Once those arrivals were close, De Zerbi relaxed his stance. The green light for Moore’s loan followed.

The Italian had been pushing hard behind the scenes for fresh blood and did little to hide his frustration after the Brentford loss. He openly referenced Moore when dissecting his side’s failed pressing game. “We were not ready to win the duels. We made a lot of mistakes in the pressing with Mikey Moore,” he said, a pointed assessment of a teenager thrust into a malfunctioning system.

Now Moore is set to swap north London for the Rhineland and a very different brief.

In Cologne, he is expected to step into the vacancy on the right wing left by Jakub Kaminski, who has joined Benfica. Moore would operate as the wide right option opposite Said El Mala, who recently surprised many by extending his contract with the Billy Goats. Köln had been searching for a solution in that area for weeks and had failed to reach an agreement with clubs such as BVB. Moore is the answer they believe fits.

He arrives with a full senior season already behind him. Last year, the winger spent his campaign on loan at Rangers, making 47 appearances in all competitions. He scored seven goals and added four assists — not explosive numbers, but solid returns for a teenager learning the demands of senior football in a high-pressure environment.

For Köln, the attraction is obvious: a young, Premier League-schooled wide player, already tested in a physically intense league, now stepping into a clear role on the flank.

For Moore, the question is just as clear: can he turn a promising résumé into a decisive season in the Bundesliga?
