The Spaniard midfielder described the squad’s midfield options as "probably the best in football," highlighting the high level of competition among players. He said, "Honestly, it’s unreal. Merino also spoke highly of his new teammate Guimaraes, calling him an "amazing signing" who has consistently shown his ability at Newcastle. "He showed it again today — a lot of composure, technical skill, and defensive effort. It's a very good signing, a top player. Guimaraes wasted no time making his debut, featuring in a pre-season match against Italian side Como. Manager Mikel Arteta was impressed by how quickly the Brazilian integrated, noting that despite only three training sessions, Guimaraes was eager to play.
