Michael Olise Shines with Hat-Trick and Neymar's Signed Shirt
Michael Olise left the Allianz Arena with his arms full and his reputation booming.
A hat-trick in a 7-0 demolition of Union Berlin guaranteed him the match ball. His two assists made the player-of-the-match award a formality. Yet the most striking souvenir of the night came long after the final whistle, in the quiet of the mixed zone.
As Olise walked through, a shirt was waiting for him. Neymar’s shirt. Signed, dedicated, sent specifically for him.
The Brazilian had asked journalist Isabela Pagliari to deliver the gift during her visit to Munich. No cameras, no big show. Just one world-class technician saluting another.
For Olise, it meant more than a simple jersey swap. He has often named Neymar, alongside Lionel Messi and Zinedine Zidane, as one of his idols. Neymar built his legend at Paris Saint-Germain and now winds down his career back home at Santos FC. Olise, 25 and French, is entering his own prime at Bayern Munich – and nights like this suggest he intends to stay at the top for a while.
A season catching fire
Right now, Olise is playing at a level that makes even Bayern’s star-studded squad stop and stare.
Union Berlin were only his seventh competitive opponents of the season. He has already been named best player on the pitch four times. Eleven goal involvements so far – and he is averaging one every 51 minutes. Those are numbers that usually belong to Ballon d’Or debates, not early-season form checks.
Harry Kane, who knows a thing or two about elite attacking standards, sounded almost grateful to share the frontline with him.
"I really enjoy playing with Michael, and I also like him a lot as a person. Not everyone gets to see his true personality, but he is a great character. He is completely different from how he comes across to outsiders," Kane said.
That last line matters. Olise’s reputation as media-shy is well known. Even after shredding Union, he turned down an interview request from Sky. He let his close friend Jamal Musiala handle the spotlight instead.
"That is what I am here for," Musiala joked, smiling as he stepped in.
Olise, as usual, preferred to let his football do the talking. Seven games, 11 decisive actions, and a 7-0 statement win say plenty.
Ballon d’Or talk begins
Inside Bayern, the conversation has already moved beyond whether Olise is simply in form. For Max Eberl, the club’s board member for sport, the bar is much higher.
"For me, Michael Olise is also one of the candidates for the Ballon d'Or. He is one of the best players in the world," Eberl declared.
It is a bold claim, but not an isolated one. Names like Kane, Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappé and Rodri dominate the usual lists of favourites. Olise is forcing his way into that company with performances that are becoming impossible to ignore.
A hat-trick, two assists, a match ball, a man-of-the-match award and a personally signed shirt from one of his childhood idols. For most players, that would be the night of a lifetime.
For Michael Olise, on this evidence, it might just be the new standard.
