Marc Guiu Joins RB Leipzig from Chelsea
Chelsea have agreed to sell striker Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig, clearing the way for the young Spaniard to swap west London for the Bundesliga.
The 20-year-old is expected to join Leipzig on a permanent deal, with only final details still being thrashed out, according to sources in Germany. Chelsea have sanctioned the move, though the exact fee remains under wraps, with Guiu understood to be valued at around £25m.
It marks a swift exit from Stamford Bridge for the Spain Under-21 international. He arrived from boyhood club Barcelona in 2024 for about £5m, billed as a long-term project for Chelsea’s evolving frontline. A year later, he is on the verge of a fresh start in Germany.
Guiu’s time in England never truly ignited. A short loan spell at Sunderland last season brought just three appearances, while his Chelsea career peaked in Europe rather than domestically. He made 29 appearances for the Blues in total, scoring eight goals, six of which came during the club’s Conference League-winning campaign in 2024-25.
Those European nights hinted at a penalty-box striker with sharp instincts and a taste for big moments. But as Chelsea’s attacking options multiplied, his path to regular minutes narrowed. The writing was on the wall this summer: Guiu trained away from the main first-team group, with expectations growing inside the club that he would move on.
Leipzig, with their track record of developing young forwards, now look set to take on that task.
Chelsea’s squad reshaping doesn’t stop with Guiu. Midfielder Kendry Paez has been recalled from an unsuccessful loan at River Plate, a move designed to free up an overseas loan slot. The Ecuadorian teenager is now expected to head back out on loan, potentially to a club in England, as Chelsea continue to juggle development plans with squad registration rules.
One striker out, one prodigy on the move again. Chelsea’s youth-driven project rolls on, but the next chapter for both Guiu and Paez will be written far from the Stamford Bridge pitch.
