Marc Cucurella Makes Real Madrid Debut in Pre-Season Win

Marc Cucurella finally pulled on the Real Madrid shirt in match action, stepping into the Veltins-Arena glare as Los Blancos wrapped up pre-season with a win over Schalke 04 in Gelsenkirchen.

The Spanish defender came off the bench in the 61st minute, a brief but telling cameo that marked his first minutes for the club and an important step in his preparation for the new campaign. For him, it was far more than a routine pre-season substitution. It was the end of a long wait.

“I am very happy,” Cucurella told Realmadrid TV after the final whistle, the relief obvious in his words. “I think it was a great match for everyone and a great result before starting the League. These were my first minutes, and I’m very eager. The wait was long, but now, little by little, I’m getting into rhythm and looking forward to starting the League.”

The game arrived at the perfect time for a player desperate to feel the pace of competition again. With Real Madrid sharpening their edge before the domestic season, Cucurella used his half-hour to find his feet, his touch, and his place in a squad stacked with quality.

“Very good,” he said of the experience. “I think with these teammates, everything is easier. These were the first minutes of the season, and little by little, I’m finding my rhythm, and soon the real competition begins.”

Behind those few minutes lies years of graft. Cucurella did not hide how much the moment meant to him.

“I am very happy. Behind all this, there is a lot of work, and all the effort I’ve put in over the years has been worth it. I’m very happy with everything that’s happening to me, and I hope it continues this way – winning titles and, above all, being able to enjoy this experience.”

The left-back was just as keen to highlight the role of the dressing room in smoothing his transition. New faces at Real Madrid often talk about the weight of the shirt; Cucurella pointed instead to the strength of the group.

“They are really good people. I think they make it very easy for everyone to adapt,” he explained. “The important thing is to have a good group so that it shows on the field that we are united. That’s how you win.”

That unity will be tested soon enough, but for now, his focus is simple: repay the faith and the noise coming from the stands and beyond.

“I’ve received many messages, and I will always try to give my best in every minute I have,” he said. “I think the most important thing, and what we all want, is to win titles with this jersey.”

One pre-season outing down, the League looming, and a defender determined to turn a long-awaited debut into something far bigger.
