Manchester United Intensify Efforts to Retain JJ Gabriel Amid Chelsea Interest

Manchester United are ramping up efforts to keep teenage sensation JJ Gabriel at Old Trafford as Chelsea and a clutch of European heavyweights circle for his signature.

The 15-year-old forward is already viewed as one of the crown jewels of United’s academy, having smashed in 29 goals in 32 appearances for the club’s U18s. Those numbers have not gone unnoticed. According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are currently leading the chase among rival clubs and are seen as Gabriel’s strongest suitor outside Manchester United.

United, though, are not sitting back.

With Champions League football returning and a major rebuild under way, Michael Carrick and the club’s hierarchy have made it a priority not only to strengthen the first team, but to lock down their best young talent. The arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans have already reshaped the midfield, and United are still in the market for another midfielder, a left-back, a winger and potentially a centre-forward.

Behind that senior recruitment drive, work on Gabriel’s future has intensified. United are described as “pushing for an agreement” over a new deal and are said to be “confident” they can get it over the line.

The key date is October. Once Gabriel becomes eligible to sign scholarship terms, interest around him is expected to surge, and United want everything in place before the scramble begins. Internally, the message is one of calm assurance, but the club are working hard in the background to ensure his rapid rise continues in Manchester rather than elsewhere.

Gabriel is regarded as one of the most coveted young forwards in world football, and United know losing him to a domestic rival would be a damaging blow to their long-term planning.

United eye Tresoldi as striker hunt gathers pace

While they fight to keep one prolific teenager, United are also stepping up their pursuit of a ready-made striker.

Caught Offside report that Club Brugge forward Nicolo Tresoldi has moved higher up United’s shortlist, with the 21-year-old now firmly on the radar of Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Barcelona. His price is expected to be in the region of €50m (around £43m).

Barcelona are currently viewed as favourites and are said to be accelerating their move for Tresoldi after the departure of Robert Lewandowski. The Catalan club, though, may find the fee difficult to accommodate, which could open the door for a Premier League bid.

Industry sources cited in the report suggest Chelsea, United and Spurs are increasingly turning to Tresoldi as a realistic option up front in a market distorted by soaring fees. In that context, a deal in the €45-50m bracket is seen as comparatively attractive.

So United’s summer push now runs on two tracks: protect the next big thing in JJ Gabriel, and find the striker who can deliver immediately. How they handle both battles will say plenty about the club they intend to be over the next decade.
