Manchester City Strike £85.6m Deal for Ayyoub Bouaddi

Manchester City have reached an agreement in principle worth 100m euros (£85.6m) to sign 18-year-old Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, underlining a dramatic reshaping of their midfield.

BBC Sport revealed earlier in the week that City and Lille were in advanced negotiations for the Morocco international. Those talks have now produced a deal: Bouaddi is set to join Enzo Maresca’s side, with Lille accepting an initial £81.4m fee plus £4.2m in performance-related add-ons.

For an 18-year-old, the numbers are staggering. For City, they are a statement.

Midfield rebuild gathers pace

City’s summer has been defined by departures in the middle of the pitch. Rodri has gone to Barcelona in a £65m move, while Tijjani Reijnders has joined Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia for £52m. Two pillars of their central unit, gone in quick succession.

That exodus has pushed central midfield to the top of City’s agenda. Bouaddi is the latest piece, but not the only one.

They have already spent heavily to bring in England international Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116m, another sizeable outlay that signals a clear change of guard in Maresca’s engine room.

City’s recruitment drive is not finished either. They retain strong interest in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, though whether they can tempt the London club into a deal remains unresolved.

For now, the focus turns to Bouaddi: an 18-year-old leaving Lille with a huge price tag, a growing reputation, and a place in the heart of a rebuilt Manchester City midfield waiting for him.
