Chelsea Hold Out for Their Price
Chelsea are prepared to sanction Fernandez’s exit, but only on their terms. They want their valuation met and a replacement identified, though there is no insistence that any incoming midfielder must mirror Fernandez’s profile.
The London club are expected to demand either more than the original £120million figure or a more favourable payment structure than the one discussed before the August 14 deadline. The message is blunt: if City want him now, they will have to pay for the privilege.

Pedro Neto’s situation could be key. If Neto also departs, Chelsea may feel they have the flexibility to bring in a central or right-sided attacking midfielder or forward. There is no certainty that Neto will leave, but Chelsea are ready to listen to offers close to £100million.
For now, though, the spotlight stays on Fernandez. A World Cup winner, a polarising figure at Stamford Bridge, and a midfielder Maresca clearly trusts.
