Manchester City are preparing to test Chelsea’s resolve with an opening bid for Enzo Fernández before the transfer window closes, according to BBC Sport, in a move that would shake up the final week of the market.
Chelsea have set a starting price of at least £120m for the 25-year-old Argentina international. That figure would make Fernández the second-most expensive signing in Premier League history, behind only Alexander Isak’s £125m switch to Liverpool.
For Enzo Maresca, this is not just another big-name chase. The new City manager views Fernández as the cornerstone of his midfield rebuild at the Etihad Stadium, the player to knit together a side stripped of experience and control in the centre of the pitch.
