Manchester City Dominates Crystal Palace 4-1 with Cherki and Haaland Braces

Manchester City’s title defense is only two games old, but the champions already look ominous.

Under the lights on Friday, City dismantled Crystal Palace 4-1 at Selhurst Park, Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland sharing the goals in a performance that mixed control with cold, clinical finishing. Two games, two wins, six points. Perfect start preserved.

First Half

Haaland, last season’s Premier League top scorer, needed just 17 minutes to get moving. Drifting into space, he met a cross with a composed, guided header, steering the ball beyond the goalkeeper to open his account for the campaign. No fuss. No rust. Just the familiar, ruthless touch.

City tightened their grip after the break, and Cherki took center stage.

Second Half

Early in the second half, the Frenchman collected the ball in a crowded penalty area and simply refused to give it up. He weaved through a tangle of Palace defenders, slipped past desperate challenges and, from close range, poked the ball into the net. A flash of pure individual quality, and the visitors were 2-0 up.

Palace, though, found a lifeline almost immediately.

Yeremy Pino stood over a free kick and whipped a stunning effort against the crossbar. The ball crashed down, struck the back of a helpless Gianluigi Donnarumma and bounced over the line. A slice of fortune, but the goal stood and the home crowd roared back into life as the deficit was halved.

Any hope of a Palace comeback vanished almost as quickly as it had appeared.

Just two minutes later, Cherki struck again. Picking the ball up just outside the area, he let fly. His shot took a deflection, wrong-footing Dean Henderson and skidding into the net. Not as pretty as his first, but just as valuable. It was the first brace of his Premier League career, and it restored City’s two-goal cushion.

From there, City managed the game with the authority of champions. They kept the ball, dictated the tempo and waited for the moment to finish it off.

It arrived six minutes from time.

Haaland, always lurking, found space and drove a left-footed strike into the net to make it 4-1. One header, one low finish, one familiar message to the rest of the league: he is already back in stride.

The whistle went with City sitting top of the table, six points from six, their early statement delivered with trademark precision.
