Loïc Mbe Soh Joins Sparta Prague After Sint-Truiden Success

Loïc Mbe Soh is on the move again. This time, the former Paris Saint-Germain and Nottingham Forest defender is heading to Sparta Prague after a sharp, eye-catching spell with Sint-Truiden.

The 25-year-old only arrived in Limburg in January, brought in as a mid-season replacement for Rein Van Helden after his switch to Antwerp. He needed little time to settle. Mbe Soh slotted straight into the back line, played 14 games, and helped Sint-Truiden clinch European football for the first time in the club’s history. He has already featured twice this season, but his stay has proved brief.

Sparta Prague have stepped in with a fee of around €3 million to prise him away, betting on a defender whose career has rarely followed a straight line.

Mbe Soh came through the academy at PSG, breaking into the first team for three appearances before heading to England in 2020. Nottingham Forest looked like the big leap, yet his four-year spell at the City Ground never truly ignited: just 13 games and one goal, punctuated by loan moves to Guingamp in France and Almere City in the Netherlands.

In 2024, Forest let him go on a free. Mbe Soh rebuilt at Beerschot in the Belgian Pro League, where he finally found rhythm and responsibility. He played 52 games for the club, enduring relegation in his first full season but then helping drive a promotion push the following year. That resurgence earned him a January move up the ladder to Sint-Truiden.

Now comes another step, and a different kind of pressure. Sparta Prague are not paying for potential alone; they are paying for a defender who has fought his way back from the margins and proven he can anchor a side chasing European nights.

From Paris to Prague, via Nottingham, Guingamp, Almere, Beerschot and Sint-Truiden, Mbe Soh’s route has been anything but smooth. Sparta are gambling that the winding road has finally produced a finished article ready to lead their back line.
