Liverpool's Transfer Window: Late Moves for Lamine Camara and More
Liverpool’s transfer window has rumbled along quietly. That might be about to change.
With the deadline fast approaching, the club have been offered Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara as a late option, according to Ben Jacobs – and he may not be the only Senegal international walking through the doors at Anfield before the window shuts.
Iraola wants width – but midfield opens up
So far, Liverpool’s business has been controlled rather than chaotic. Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz have arrived on permanent deals, while Ronald Araujo has joined on loan from Barcelona to bolster the defence.
The headline move is close: a deal has been agreed with PSG for winger Bradley Barcola after a summer-long pursuit. Yet Andoni Iraola is still pushing for more, especially out wide.
Asked in his pre-Nottingham Forest press conference where he would “ideally” like to strengthen, Iraola didn’t hide the plan.
“‘Ideally’ is the magic word,” he said. “In the end, there are certain things that you can do, certain things that we don’t know if we can do. But it’s true that the priority has been to strengthen in the wide areas.
“Still, we have four, five days, I’m sure if we can improve other areas, we will.”
Barcola is one wide target. Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr is another. Now Camara’s name has been thrown into the mix.
Camara offered to Liverpool and Chelsea
Jacobs reports that Monaco have put Camara on the table for both Liverpool and Chelsea as the clock ticks down.
“Monaco’s Lamine Camara has been offered to Chelsea and Liverpool as a late window opportunity. Crystal Palace had a bid turned down earlier this month,” he wrote on X.
The timing is significant. Liverpool have lost Curtis Jones to Inter Milan, leaving a gap in central midfield just as the club are trying to accelerate the development of highly rated youngster Trey Nyoni. A ready-made option on the market suddenly looks tempting.
Monaco, for their part, are already moving pieces. Journalist Luca Bendoni reports that the Ligue 1 side have reached an agreement in principle with Cruz Azul for midfielder Erik Lira.
“AS Monaco has reached an agreement in principle with Cruz Azul for midfielder Erik Lira. Total package around €10m including add-ons. Deal now depending on AS Monaco completing the sale of a non-EU player,” Bendoni posted on X.
That non-EU player could be Camara. And Liverpool are firmly in the conversation.
Double Senegal swoop still on the table
The Senegal angle doesn’t stop there. Senegalese journalist La Loumance has suggested that Camara might not be the only player from Aliou Cissé’s national pool heading to Merseyside.
“Not the only Senegalese who could sign with Liverpool,” he wrote on X, hinting that Camara and Sarr could both yet end up in red before the deadline.
Sarr’s situation remains tangled. The Independent’s Miguel Delaney reported on Thursday that Liverpool are “still pursuing” a deal for the Crystal Palace attacker, even after new Eagles boss Pierre Sage publicly insisted the 28-year-old is not for sale.
Reports initially claimed Liverpool had seen a £50m bid rejected. TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey has since been told that no formal bid went in. Instead, Liverpool are understood to have made an enquiry, with Sarr’s camp then offering the winger to the club in an attempt to turn that interest into a concrete proposal.
So the chase continues, even if the lines around it are blurred.
Busy days ahead at Anfield
What is clear is that Liverpool’s hierarchy are braced for a frantic final stretch of the window. Wide players remain the priority. A central midfielder has suddenly become a live topic again. And at least one of those late moves is likely to involve a player Iraola already knows well.
Liverpool started this summer quietly. They might end it with a late, decisive flurry that reshapes Iraola’s squad in a matter of days.
