Liverpool Poised for Last-Minute Signing as Minteh’s Agents Push for Move

Despite Cody Gakpo staying put at Anfield, Liverpool might still pull off a late transfer before Tuesday's 11pm deadline. The agents of Brighton and Hove Albion winger Yankuba Minteh are actively working to complete his switch to the Reds, according to senior correspondent Ben Jacobs.

Earlier reports suggested that Liverpool would keep Gakpo after failing to find a replacement following his talks with Manchester City. The club has been linked with Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr, but no agreement has been reached for either player so far.

Jacobs told talkSPORT on Deadline Day morning that Minteh’s representatives remain optimistic about sealing the deal today. Brighton reportedly demanded £80 million for the Gambian winger, though it’s unclear if they will soften their stance in these final hours.

Why Minteh Fits Liverpool’s Plans

Iraola, Liverpool’s coach, values explosive pace, as seen from his previous work at Bournemouth with players like Antoine Semenyo and Eli Junior Kroupi. Minteh’s speed would complement this approach perfectly.

Stats from Minteh's 2025-26 Premier League season highlight his quickness and involvement:

  • Top speed: 36.2 km/h
  • Sprints: 555
  • Goals: 3
  • Assists: 4

Alongside Bradley Barcola, who also brings rapid pace, Minteh could address Liverpool’s current imbalance on the wings. With Barcola, Gakpo, and Victor Munoz mainly playing on the left side, adding a right winger like Minteh seems a logical move.
