Liverpool's Long-Term Striker Deal for Djylian N'Guessan

Liverpool are racing to finish this transfer window strongly, but their latest move is aimed far beyond this season.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the club have reached an agreement to sign St Etienne striker Djylian N'Guessan, with the teenager scheduled to arrive at Anfield in the summer of 2027. A deal is in place with both club and player, and N'Guessan has been authorised to undergo a medical.

The fee remains under wraps, yet the strategy is clear. Liverpool are not just shopping for now; they are quietly stacking pieces for the next era.

This comes in a frantic spell for the Merseyside side. A move for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola is understood to be agreed and only awaiting official confirmation, underlining the push to add more firepower in the wide areas before the window closes.

At the same time, Liverpool have already tied up a significant deal for the future in goal. Genk goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans will join next summer in a transfer worth €35 million, another signing parked for tomorrow while the noise surrounds today.

N'Guessan fits that same pattern.

Who is Djylian N'Guessan?

Freshly 18, N'Guessan is a centre-forward who can also operate from the flanks, giving coaches the kind of positional flexibility modern attacks demand. He has already broken into St Etienne’s senior setup, making 13 first-team appearances, several of them in the 2024-25 campaign.

Most of his minutes, though, have come with Saint Etienne's B team and under-19 side, where his potential has marked him out as one to watch. On the international stage, he has been capped up to under-20 level for his country, another marker of his standing within his age group.

For now, he stays in France. That might be the smartest part of the whole plan. Remaining at Saint Etienne offers regular football, familiar surroundings and a clearer path to minutes than an immediate jump into Liverpool’s senior squad.

Liverpool supporters will welcome the sight of the club plotting so far ahead in attack, especially with a new era taking shape. But as the window ticks towards its deadline, their eyes will still be fixed on the present: who walks through the door to help this season, not just the ones arriving in 2025 and 2027.
