Liverpool Squad Trimmed: Kieran Morrison and Calvin Ramsay Loan Moves

Andoni Iraola has started to trim his Liverpool squad, and the first wave of departures is already moving out on loan.

Kieran Morrison, one of the standout performers on Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the USA, has sealed a season-long move to Sheffield Wednesday. The 19-year-old winger will spend the entire 2026-27 campaign at Hillsborough in League One.

This is not a case of taking the first offer. Morrison rejected interest from clubs on the continent to drop into the English third tier, convinced that Wednesday can give him what he wants most right now: regular senior minutes and a clear role in a first team.

Liverpool clearly see a long-term future for him. Earlier in the summer, the club tied him down to a new contract running until 2030, a strong statement about how highly he is rated at Anfield even as he heads out the door for experience.

Another defender is also on the move. Calvin Ramsay is set to join St Mirren on loan in the Scottish Premiership. The 23-year-old right-back, whose Liverpool deal expires next summer, will look to re-establish himself with consistent game time north of the border.

Iraola’s squad is shrinking on paper, but these moves will say far more about Liverpool’s future once Morrison and Ramsay return with a full season of senior football behind them.
