Liverpool Set to Secure New Contract for Rising Star Rio Ngumoha

Liverpool are moving to lock down one of their brightest emerging stars, with the club now said to “fully expect” to reach an agreement on a new contract for Rio Ngumoha.

The winger, still a teenager but already viewed as one of the Premier League’s standout young talents, was a rare spark in a flat Liverpool season. While senior forwards misfired, Ngumoha injected pace, direct running and a sense of danger every time he stepped onto the pitch. Many around Anfield felt he had earned more minutes at the expense of the struggling Cody Gakpo.

That impact inevitably drew attention. Bayern Munich were linked earlier in the summer, with talk of a bold move to prise him away from Merseyside. Liverpool moved quickly to shut that down, and Bayern have since shifted their focus to other wide targets.

Inside Anfield, the stance on Ngumoha is crystal clear. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano underlined that this week, describing the youngster as “untouchable” in Liverpool’s plans.

“Just to clarify that, should anything happen, Barcola or not Barcola, two wingers – because Liverpool’s intention is to add two wingers to the squad, especially if Gakpo goes to Tottenham – in any case, Rio Ngumoha is untouchable,” Romano said. “Rio Ngumoha was never close to joining Bayern this summer. Rio, for Liverpool, is absolutely crucial part of their present and future project.”

That internal view is now being backed up with a concrete move.

Liverpool ready to reward rapid rise

TEAMtalk report that Liverpool now fully expect to finalise an agreement with Ngumoha on an improved contract, easing any lingering concerns about him being tempted away in the short term.

When he originally joined the club, Liverpool handed him the maximum three-year deal permitted for his age. That framework is no longer enough for a player they see as central to the next phase of the rebuild.

According to the report, the new proposal will bring a substantial pay rise, along with performance-related increments tied to international appearances. The structure reflects Liverpool’s belief that Ngumoha will not just break into the senior side, but stay there.

In other words, they are paying him like a first-team player because they expect him to become exactly that.

Gakpo pushes for Spurs switch

While Liverpool move to secure one winger, another looks to be edging towards the exit.

TEAMtalk also report that Cody Gakpo has informed the club he wants to join Tottenham Hotspur. The Dutchman, who has struggled to fully convince since arriving at Anfield, is understood to have agreed personal terms in principle with Spurs through his representatives.

Those representatives have now spoken directly with Liverpool’s hierarchy to make the player’s stance clear. Gakpo, the report says, has told the club he does not see his long-term future at Anfield and wants the chance to restart his Premier League career in north London.

If Liverpool sanction that move and complete the Ngumoha renewal, the picture is obvious: one era of the forward line quietly closing, another being built around a fearless young winger they now consider non-negotiable.
