Liverpool's £50m Bid for Sarr After Minteh Setback
Liverpool have turned sharply towards Crystal Palace winger Sarr, tabling a £50 million offer as their chase for Minteh hits a dead end, according to the Mirror.
Two separate bids for Minteh were knocked back, both some way short of Brighton’s firm £70m valuation. With the window closing on Monday and only five days left to reshape the squad, Liverpool have stopped waiting and started acting.
Liverpool scramble for wide firepower
The need is brutal and obvious. The club has been shaken by the tragic death of Diogo Jota and then stripped further by the exits of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah. Wide forwards are no longer a luxury at Anfield. They are the priority.
That urgency has pushed Sarr to the top of the list. The 28-year-old, who joined Crystal Palace two years ago, is understood to be very keen on a move to Merseyside. Liverpool, though, are not alone at the table.
Saudi and Turkish interest complicates chase
This is not a simple straight-line deal. Foot Mercato reports that Al-Hilal and Galatasaray are both in the race, with the Turkish champions already in advanced talks and the Saudi side tracking developments closely.
Palace, armed with competing offers and a player in peak form, hold a strong hand as the clock ticks down.
Sarr’s numbers back the hype
Sarr arrives on Liverpool’s radar with serious output behind him. Last season he made 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring 21 goals and adding two assists as Palace went on to lift the UEFA Europa Conference League.
He carried that form into the international arena. At the World Cup this summer, the winger struck four times before Senegal bowed out to Belgium in the round of 32. Those figures explain why three clubs, across three different leagues, are now circling.
Iraola demands reinforcements
Liverpool manager Iraola has not hidden his frustration at the thinness of his squad, particularly with Tottenham and Manchester City showing interest in Cody Gakpo and the forward line already stretched.
“Some deals you have to wait until the end. But the end is the important picture, the one we will have on September 1, because it is true that we are still quite thin,” he told Sky Sports, underlining the tension of these final days.
The Spaniard admitted he had wanted every position doubled with top-level options before the season kicked off. The market has not allowed that. Now he must adapt, and fast.
Liverpool have made their move for Sarr. The question is whether £50m, and the pull of Anfield, will be enough in a bidding war that could define the shape of their attack for the rest of the season.
