Ligue 1 Round 2 Predictions: Lille vs PSG Showdown

The predictions battle is back for the 2026/27 Ligue 1 campaign, and after the opening weekend, there’s already a gap.

Luke Entwistle leads with 5 points.

Bastien Cheval chases on 3.

Three points for a perfect scoreline, two for the right goal difference, one for the correct result. Simple. Brutal. Over nine months, it won’t be.

Game of the week: Lille OSC v Paris Saint-Germain – Friday, 19:45 (UK)

Seven days. That’s all it has taken for questions to start swirling around Paris Saint-Germain again.

Luis Enrique’s side stumbled out of the blocks, held by Stade Rennais last Friday and forced to lean on a second-half brace from Ferran Torres just to escape with a point. The performance looked like a team still shaking off pre-season rust – which, given PSG’s now familiar, truncated summer, was almost inevitable. The level of the opposition did the champions no favours either.

Now comes another serious examination. Another trip. Another contender for the Champions League places. Lille await in the north, and this one feels like a genuine early barometer of PSG’s sharpness.

Les Parisiens travel without Ousmane Dembélé, a significant blow to their attacking spark. Yet Lille have their own headache. Matias Fernandez-Pardo will not feature while his transfer saga rumbles on, and his absence strips Davide Ancelotti of a key weapon. Ayoubb Bouaddi has gone too, though that departure had been expected and Lille have already begun to move on.

There were encouraging signs on the opening weekend. Under Ancelotti Jr., LOSC eased past SCO Angers 2-0 without ever needing to hit top gear. Controlled, professional, almost serene. This, though, is a different world. A rookie head coach, a heavyweight opponent, and the lights firmly on him. This is the biggest test of his young career.

Both Luke and Bastien see PSG just edging it. Both go 2-1 to the visitors. The margin for error, for either coach, feels far smaller than that.

Luke’s Ligue 1 predictions – Round 2

  • Lille 1-2 PSG
  • Strasbourg 1-3 Lens
  • Auxerre 1-0 Angers
  • Brest 0-1 Toulouse
  • Lyon 2-1 Le Havre
  • Lorient 0-0 Troyes
  • Paris FC 1-0 Nice
  • Rennes 4-0 Le Mans
  • Monaco 2-0 Marseille

Luke backs a statement from Rennes, a controlled win for Monaco in a heavyweight clash with Marseille, and a tight, low-scoring weekend almost everywhere else.

Bastien’s Ligue 1 predictions – Round 2

  • Lille 1-2 PSG
  • Strasbourg 1-3 Lens
  • Auxerre 0-0 Angers
  • Brest 1-0 Toulouse
  • Lorient 1-0 Troyes
  • Lyon 2-1 Le Havre
  • Paris FC 0-1 Nice
  • Rennes 3-1 Le Mans
  • Monaco 2-2 Marseille

Bastien mirrors Luke on three scorelines – including that Lille-PSG showdown – but sees more resistance from Marseille in the Principality and a cagey stalemate for Auxerre.

Two pundits, nine months, one table. The predictions race has started; how long will Luke’s early lead last?
