Juventus Sign Pape Matar Sarr from Tottenham Hotspur
Juventus have struck a deal with Tottenham Hotspur to sign midfielder Pape Matar Sarr in a move that could climb to €30 million, according to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano.
The agreement is structured around an initial loan with an option to buy. That option will not stay optional for long if things go to plan in Turin. The clause turns into an obligation should Juventus qualify for the Champions League and Sarr hit agreed appearance targets over the season.
In other words, if Sarr plays and Juventus perform, this becomes a permanent signing.
The move gathers pace after the 23-year-old Senegal international asked to leave North London in search of a new challenge. Competition in Tottenham’s midfield intensified under Roberto De Zerbi, with the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali pushing Sarr down a congested pecking order.
For a while, Monaco looked best placed to land him. They were widely viewed as frontrunners for the former FC Metz man. But once Juventus came calling, Sarr quickly settled personal terms with the Italian giants, and the conversation shifted from “who leads the race” to “when is he flying to Italy?”
For Juventus, this is a late-window correction. Other midfield targets slipped away, and the Bianconeri pivoted decisively towards Sarr, attracted by his high-energy, box-to-box running and his knack for winning the ball. He fits the profile they were missing: legs in midfield, aggression without the ball, and the ability to carry play from deep.
Tottenham, meanwhile, gain clarity. Letting Sarr go trims a bloated midfield group and could bring in a significant fee if the purchase clause is triggered. The Senegalese international leaves Spurs having made over 100 competitive appearances since his arrival from FC Metz in 2021, a stint that turned him from prospect into established Premier League performer.
With an agreement in place between the clubs, Sarr has been cleared to travel to Turin. He will undergo his medical and sign his contract ahead of the transfer deadline, closing the book on his Tottenham chapter and opening another in Serie A.
Tottenham’s work is far from done. The London club are braced for a frantic finish to the window and remain active in the hunt for an attacker. Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye is at the top of their list, but Spurs are not alone there either, with Arsenal and Manchester City also circling.
Sarr heads for Italy, Juventus plug a gap, and Spurs roll the dice again in the market. The only question now: who lands the next decisive signing before the clock runs out?
