Joël Piroe Joins West Ham on Loan from Leeds United

Joël Piroe has left Leeds United to join West Ham United on loan for the rest of the 2026/27 campaign, as the London club chases an immediate return to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old forward, capped by Suriname, heads to the London Stadium after two prolific seasons in West Yorkshire that helped drag Leeds back to the top flight.

Piroe arrived at Elland Road from Swansea City in August 2023 on the back of a 19-goal haul in the Championship. He wasted no time justifying the move. Thrown straight in against Ipswich Town just two days after signing, he marked his debut with a goal for Daniel Farke’s side and never really looked back.

That first season in Leeds colours brought 53 appearances and 16 goals in all competitions, Piroe establishing himself as a reliable finisher and a constant presence in Farke’s attack.

He went up another level the following year. Across the 2024/25 campaign, Piroe featured 48 times and struck 19 goals as Leeds were crowned champions and clinched promotion back to the Premier League. His scoring run earned him the division’s Golden Boot, underlining his status as one of the most dangerous forwards outside the top tier.

Now he steps into a different kind of pressure. West Ham, relegated last season, are under intense scrutiny to climb straight back out of the Sky Bet Championship. Piroe’s record suggests he can shoulder a significant share of that burden.

Leeds, who confirmed the loan deal, closed their announcement with a simple message: everyone at the club wishes Joël Piroe the best of luck at the London Stadium. The rest will be decided in front of packed Championship crowds and under the weight of a promotion race that rarely forgives a misfire.
