Joe Bursik Returns to AFC Wimbledon on Loan

Joe Bursik has completed an emotional return to AFC Wimbledon, rejoining the club on loan from Championship side Portsmouth for the rest of the season.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper heads back to Plough Lane, the place where his career first took shape. He joined Wimbledon’s academy as an eight-year-old, spending his formative years with the club before departing for Stoke City at 16 in search of a pathway into senior football.

At Stoke, Bursik built a reputation as a sharp, modern goalkeeper. He kept seven clean sheets in 16 Championship appearances for the Potters during the 2020-21 campaign, a run that underlined his potential and pushed him into the first-team picture. That spell was broken up by a series of loans designed to harden him in different environments, with stints at Telford, Accrington, Doncaster and Peterborough adding experience across the divisions.

Portsmouth moved for him in September 2025, and Bursik has since made 10 league appearances for Pompey. He also started one of the standout fixtures of their recent history, lining up against Arsenal in a 4-1 FA Cup third-round defeat at Fratton Park.

Now he returns to Wimbledon with a full professional career behind him and a season ahead in which his story with the club starts again, this time as the man between the posts rather than the kid in the academy.
