JJ Gabriel Rejects Manchester United as Barcelona and Real Madrid Lead Transfer Race
The battle for JJ Gabriel has exploded into one of the fiercest races in European youth football – and Manchester United are no longer in it.
The 15-year-old, widely regarded as one of the standout prospects in United’s academy, has informed the club he will not sign a new deal when he turns 16. That decision, delivered formally through his family and agent Ali Barat, has drawn a hard line under his Old Trafford future and opened the door to some of Europe’s biggest institutions.
United have tried. Several proposals have gone in, but the response has not shifted. Those close to the talks describe the decision as firm, and the club are understood to have accepted that Gabriel and his camp are not about to change course.
In recent days, the teenager has already stepped back from some of his usual commitments with United as he and his representatives concentrate fully on plotting his next move.
European giants circle
Once Gabriel’s family made it clear he would not continue in the Premier League, the field narrowed quickly. Only a handful of clubs can realistically offer both the financial package and the development structure his camp are demanding.
The shortlist is brutal: Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Gabriel and his family have already sat down with representatives from these clubs. His visit to Barcelona was made public last week, with images and reports placing him in the city and around the club. The family have also travelled to Madrid to hear Real’s pitch.
From those meetings, one early conclusion has emerged inside Gabriel’s camp: they see La Liga as the ideal landscape for his growth. The style, the technical emphasis, the pathway for young attackers – Barcelona and Real Madrid are viewed as the two prime stages on which he could eventually break through at the very top.
That doesn’t mean Bayern and PSG are out. A powerful late move from either side could still twist the story. But right now, the tug-of-war feels increasingly like a Clasico played off the pitch.
Pull of Barcelona, shadow of Madrid
People close to the player acknowledge something else: Gabriel has a particular soft spot for Barcelona.
He has already appeared on social media in Barça colours, ball at his feet, showing off the kind of skill that has put him on every top scout’s watchlist. Those images have not gone unnoticed at the Camp Nou.
Yet this is not a one-club crush. Gabriel also follows Real Madrid and several of their players on social media, a small but telling sign that the Bernabéu holds its own appeal. For a teenager looking at the very top of the game, both Spanish giants offer different routes to the same summit.
Negotiations, for now, remain open. Barcelona know the player’s personal preference could tilt the scales in their favour. They also know the financial reality: if Real Madrid decide to go all-in, they have the muscle to construct a more lucrative proposal and test just how strong that Barça leaning really is.
Bayern and PSG wait in the background, ready to pounce if the Spanish duel stalls. But as things stand, the next chapter in JJ Gabriel’s career looks set to be written in Spanish – the only real question is whether the address is Camp Nou or the Bernabéu.
