Jadon Sancho's Next Move: Premier League or Borussia Dortmund?
Jadon Sancho is back on the Premier League radar, with two unnamed top-flight clubs reported to be exploring a deal to bring him home.
TeamTalk report that discussions are under way between those sides and the winger’s representatives, as the 26-year-old weighs up his next move after a turbulent few years at the top level. Out of contract and on the market as a free agent, Sancho can still sign outside the window, which shut a week ago, giving him rare breathing space in a frantic industry.
A stalled Villa audition
Last season was supposed to be his reset. A full campaign away from Manchester United, a fresh environment under Unai Emery at Aston Villa, and a chance to reassert himself in the Premier League.
It never really caught fire.
Sancho spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Villa Park but failed to secure a regular starting place. He made just nine Premier League starts and, across 23 appearances in all, did not find the net once. In a Villa side that lost Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins in major attacking departures, this was his opportunity to step up. He didn’t.
So when the season ended, Villa’s stance was clear. There was no serious push to turn the loan into a permanent deal, even with attacking reinforcements needed. Sancho walked away from his United contract and into free agency, his stock lower than at any point since he first broke through at Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund door creaks open again
And yet, the old link refuses to die.

That blow has forced Dortmund to reassess their attacking options and scan the free agent market. Sancho, with his history there, instantly jumps to the top of any shortlist. Across his two spells with the club, he delivered 53 goals and 67 assists in 158 games – numbers that still carry weight in a dressing room that remembers his peak.
A return to Dortmund would hand him Champions League football this season and the comfort of a familiar stage, with a coach and fanbase that know exactly how devastating he can be when his confidence flows. It would also remove the relentless glare of the English spotlight, offering a softer landing as he tries to reboot a career that has drifted.
Premier League pull vs familiar refuge
So the choice in front of Sancho is stark.
On one side, a Premier League comeback. Two clubs are circling, sensing value in a free transfer for a player who, at his best, was one of Europe’s most creative wide forwards. The league’s pace, the intensity, the scrutiny – all of it would return. So would the chance to prove, definitively, that he can crack English football.

Sancho has time, for once. The window is closed, but his options are not. The next contract he signs will not just decide his club. It will decide whether his story becomes a revival or a cautionary tale.
